Abstract

Edema can be observed as a symptom of a wide variety of diseases. The atypical antipsychotic olanzapine is rarely related with peripheral edema. The relationship between olanzapine and edema is still unclear. In this case report, a periorbital edema developing shortly after initiation of olanzapine treatment in a patient with schizophrenia is reported and the possible causes for edema are discussed.

Özet

Ödem çok çeşitli hastalığa bağlı olarak gelişebilen bir belirtidir. Atipik antipsikotiklerden biri olan olanzapin nadir olarak periferik ödem ile ilişkili bulunmuştur. Ancak olanzapin ile ödem arasındaki bu ilişki halen net değildir. Bu olgu sunumunda bir erkek şizofreni hastasında olanzapin başlandıktan kısa süre sonra bilateral periorbital ödem gelişmesi anlatılmış olup ödeme neden olabilecek olasınedenler tartışılmıştır.
