Abstract

Citrus is an important group both in terms of production, and export for Turkey. However not only intensive production in a specific period, but also short harvesting period time have a nagative impact on price formation, and in citrus, which is an important export product in the international market has led to a competitive disadvantage. In this study, monthly citrus prices received by farmers for 11 years within 2003–2013 were obtained from Turkish Statistical Institute, and prices deflated to determine optimal selling time of citrus by using Game theory, and to calculate a guaranteed price through Wald (Maximin) criteria. With the obtained model optimal selling period of oranges in March and October, lemon in January, September and October, tangerines in October, and grapefruit in February and November have been identified. And it has been shown that producers have a real price advantage between 1.59% to 3.88% if they would sold citrus in the specified period.
