Abstract

Phosphorus is the fourth most common element in the body after carbon, nitrogen and calcium. In additionto its role in bone mineralisation, it is also essential for DNA, RNA, ATP and membrane phospholipid synthesis. Several clinical features like parestesia, seizure, irritability, muscle weakness, respiratory failuremay occur in its deficiency. In this report, presenting our case of an 80- year- old man (C5 tetraplegia ASIA- A) - who had been followed for hypophosphatemia due to long- term use of antiacids, laxatives andenema- we aimed to discuss bowel management in spinal cord injured patients.
