Abstract

Plasma concentrations of hormones during exercise and recovery have important influence on physiological adaptation mechanisms. Glucocorticoid hormones play important role because of their effects on glucose metabolism during exercise and recovery periods. This study investigates the response of plasma Cortisol to a single bout of submaximal acute exercise in elite athletes. Results suggest that, plasma Cortisol level increases due to submaximal exercise. Incerases in plasma Cortisol level has been 30 % at the immediate post exercise period, 59 % at the 30 th and 23 % at the. 60th minutes. At the 120th minute of recovery plasma Cortisol level returned to resting conditions. The differences between the resting values and, immediate postexercise, 30th and 60th minutes following the exercise seem to be statistically significant (P < 0.05)
