Abstract

The motivation of this essay is to contemplate on the subtle distinctions in the conception of history, especially intellectual history, in contrast to a history of stereotypical, single-centered and essentialist interpretations. Within this framework it will briefly look at the development of global history debates that attempt to uncover differences, similarities and ties between regions. The second topic of the article will be the rise of intellectual history and how this field was opened to global perspectives.
