Abstract
Industry is under growing pressure from legal and market drivers to adopt a more ecologic approach to product design and manufacture. In response to increasing drivers, practical guidance for implementing this concept is required. To meet this requirement there are environmental management system standards currently adopted by different regions and countries throughout the world. This paper is based on the results of a survey to analyze the current environmental management system for manufacturing industry in Karaman. In this paper environmental sensitivity of these small and medium sized companies were evaluated to understand how far they are to have an environmental management standard. According to the findings of the survey it is understood that there are not specialist staff who can manage environmental investments nor an awareness to convert these investments into a competitive advantage and environmental investments are insufficient.

Endüstriyel kuruluşlar ürün dizaynı ve üretimde daha çevreci bir yaklaşım göstermek noktasında yasal yükümlülükler ve piyasa taleplerinin artan baskısı altındadır. Bu talebin karşılanması için pratik bir rehbere ihtiyaç duyulmuştur. Çevre yönetim sistem standartları bu ihtiyacı karşılamak üzere tüm dünyada farklı ülkelerde kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Karaman’daki imalat işletmelerinin çevre yönetimiyle ilgili mevcut durumlarını tespit etmek amacıyla yapılan anket çalışmasının sonuçları değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada küçük ve orta ölçekli bu işletmelerin çevre yönetim sistem standartlarına ne kadar uzak olduklarını anlamak üzere çevresel hassasiyetleri değerlendirilmiştir Yapılan anket değerlendirmesi sonucunda bu işletmelerde çevre yatırımlarını yönlendirebilecek uzman personel bulunmadığı, bu yatırımları bir rekabet avantajına çevirme bilinci oluşmadığı ve çevre yatırımlarının yetersiz olduğu anlaşılmaktadır.
