Abstract

Acute appendicitis is the most common abdominal emergency requiring surgical intervention in children. In spite of all technological improvements, it has considerable morbidity because of difficulties in diagnosis and subsequent delays in treatment. In addition to physical, laboratory and radiological examinations, history and data related to heredity can be helpful to us. In a patient with acute abdomen, giving family history can provide supportive information to diagnosis. Even simultaneous cases have been reported in twins (at the same day). In spite of this information, genetical factors which are responsible from family history have not been revealed yet. Also, role of nutritive and environmental factors such as nutrition habits of families are controversial. Monozygotic twins with acute appendicitis were operated in one month interval. Clinical characteristic of these two patients, genetical and environmental influences on appendicitis were investigated.
