Abstract
This study investigates the effects of widely used distributed and lumped plasticity methods on the nonlinear behavior of structures. In the distributed plasticity approach, the influence of parameters such as the number of integration points and the plastic hinge length which allow a more realistic representation of sectional behavior was evaluated, whereas in the lumped plasticity approach, the effects of effective section stiffness on the overall system response were examined. Numerical analyses conducted on a five-story frame system revealed that reducing the number of elements with small sectional (fiber) divisions and consequently the number of integration pointsled to variations of up to 12% in base shear and up to 20% in interstory drift ratios. Furthermore, in lumped plasticity models, variations in effective section stiffness resulted in differences of up to 47% in base shear and up to 90% in maximum interstory drift. Comparative analyses of nine different models demonstrated variations in key structural parameters such as period, story drift, reinforcement elongation–concrete shortening, plastic rotation, analysis duration, and base shear. The findings indicate that both modeling approaches have a significant influence on structural behavior under different nonlinear analysis conditions.
Elde edilen bulgular, her iki yöntemin farklı analiz koşullarında yapısal davranış üzerinde önemli etkiler yarattığını ortaya koymaktadır.
