Abstract
In this study, the characterization of domestic wastewater collected from the inlet of the 200 m³ day⁻¹ capacity biological package wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) located at Bartın University’s Kutlubey Campus was carried out, and its treatability using a completely mixed sequencing batch reactor (SBR) system was investigated. The primary aim was to evaluate the treatment performance of small-scale campus wastewater under aerobic conditions and to determine the fundamental kinetic parameters of the biological treatment process. Seed sludge was obtained from the existing WWTP, and the reactor was fed at four different influent COD concentrations (100, 150, 170, and 200 mg L⁻¹), while daily monitoring of COD, MLSS, dissolved oxygen, and pH was conducted. COD removal efficiencies ranged between 70–87 %, and the microbial kinetics were found to fit the Monod model. The estimated kinetic parameters were a maximum specific growth rate (μmax) of 0.159 h⁻¹ and a half-saturation constant (Ks) of 65 mg L⁻¹, which are consistent with values reported for campus-scale systems in the literature. The proposed SBR configuration was found to have the potential to reduce specific energy consumption by approximately 69 % compared to the existing continuously aerated package plant. The calculated kinetic parameters and energy efficiency analysis address the data gap in the literature for small-scale (<200 m³ day⁻¹) treatment plants in Türkiye and present an original operational model that is economically superior to existing conventional systems.
Özet
Bu çalışmada, Bartın Üniversitesi Kutlubey Yerleşkesi’ndeki 200 m³ gün⁻¹ kapasiteli biyolojik paket Atıksu Arıtma Tesisi (AAT) girişinden alınan evsel nitelikli atıksuların karakterizasyonu yapılmış ve söz konusu atıksuların biyolojik olarak arıtılabilirliği tam-karışımlı kesikli biyoreaktör (BR) sistemiyle araştırılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, küçük ölçekli kampüs atıksularının aerobik koşullarda giderim performansını değerlendirmek ve biyolojik arıtma sürecine ait temel kinetik parametreleri ortaya koymaktır. Aşı kültürü olarak mevcut AAT’den alınan aktif çamur kullanılmış; reaktöre dört farklı giriş KOİ konsantrasyonunda (100, 150, 170, 200 mg L⁻¹) besleme yapılarak KOİ, MLSS, çözünmüş oksijen ve pH günlük izlenmiştir. KOİ giderim verimi %70–87 aralığında gerçekleşmiş ve mikrobiyal kinetiğin Monod modeline uyduğu belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen kinetik sabitler maksimum özgül büyüme hızı (μmax) 0,159 sa⁻¹ ve yarı doygunluk sabiti (Ks) 65 mg L⁻¹ olup literatürdeki kampüs ölçekli değerlerle uyumludur. BR tasarımının, mevcut sürekli havalandırmalı paket tesise göre özgül enerji tüketimini yaklaşık %69 azaltma potansiyeline sahip olduğu hesaplanmıştır. Hesaplanan kinetik parametreler ve enerji verimliliği analizi, Türkiye'deki küçük ölçekli (<200 m³ gün⁻¹) arıtma tesisleri için literatürdeki veri eksikliğini gidermekte ve mevcut konvansiyonel sistemlere göre ekonomik açıdan üstün, özgün bir işletme modeli ortaya koymaktadır.
