Abstract

Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a highlyinfectious childhood disease and mostly caused byCoxsackievirus A16 and Enterovirus 71. It is abenign, self-limiting disease and characterized bymild clinical symptoms including fever with typicalerythematous papules on the hands, feet, and oralcavity. This disease is rarely seen in healthy adults. A39-year-old Turkish male applied with fever, sorethroat, malaise and multiple vesicles on both palmsand soles. His 5-year-old son had same symptoms andhad been diagnosed with HFMD 7 days ago. Thepatient was diagnosed with HFMD based on history, characteristic skin lesions and Polymerase chainreactionsymptomatically. The lesions resolved spontaneouslyin 10 days without any complications during a5-month follow-up. In this report, we describe a caseof HFMD caused by Coxsackievirus A16 in animmunocompetent adult. Although, HFMD is rarelyseen in healthy adults, the disease should always bekept in mind in patients who present with fever, malaise and maculopapular rashes

Özet

El-ayak-ağız hastalığı, çoğunlukla Koksakivirus A16 veEnterovirus 71'in neden olduğu, oldukça bulaşıcı birçocukluk çağı hastalığıdır.
