Abstract

Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Nursing Practice Readiness Scale (NPRS). Design: This study employed methodological design. The data were collected between February and May 2023. The study was concluded with the participation of 225 novice nurses and fourth-year nursing students. Methods: Descriptive information form, the NPRS and the Work Readiness Scale for graduate nurses (WRS-GN) were used for data collection. The data were evaluated using descriptive statistics, validity analyses and reliability analyses. Results: The content validity index of the scale was 0.90. Items 33 and 35 were excluded from the scale on the grounds that they exhibited a standardized regression coefficient of 0.579 and a standardized residual covariance value of 5.775, respectively. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the scale, conducted after the removal of the afore-mentioned two items, demonstrated an optimal fit. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale reached 0.96, while the item-total score correlations of all items within the scale exceeded 0.30, indicating a high level of internal consistency. A statistically significant positive correlation was identified between the NPRS and the WRS-GN (r=0.739; p<0.001). Conclusions: The 33-item Turkish version of the NPRS is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring the readiness of new graduate nurses for nursing practice.
