Abstract

Since the beginning of human history, humankind has regarded access to and consumption of adequate and balanced food as a natural right in order to sustain life and protect health. Quality nutrition affects people’s physical and mental development and ensures the emergence of healthy living conditions. Today, the concepts of nutrition and health are closely interrelated.Among the factors that directly affect human health, food products are of primary importance. Food safety refers to the preparation of food in a way that is free from physical, chemical, and biological hazards throughout all stages from production to consumption, ensuring that it does not pose a risk to human health (WHO, 2023). Even a small disruption at any stage from production to consumption can cause serious health problems, or even mass food poisoning incidents, especially in communal living environments such as student dormitories where large numbers of people are served. Food poisoning is an illness that occurs as a result of consuming food or beverages contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites, or toxins. It causes gastrointestinal infections, leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Food poisoning usually occurs due to foods that are undercooked, improperly stored, or prepared without following hygiene rules (Acıbadem Sağlık Grubu, 2020).
