Abstract

Aim: This study aims to determine the attitudes and behaviors of people ‘s ideas about traditional, complementary, and alternative medicine practices who apply to a university hospital rheumatology outpatient clinic. The characteristics of people who have complaints about rheumatic diseases and use traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practices applications, the reasons why they use them, and which application methods they use important for patient satisfaction, treatment effectiveness, and service providers. Materials and Methods: This descriptive type of research was conducted by a face-to-face interview method for using a questionnaire with 54 people who applied to the rheumatology outpatient clinic of the university hospital. The survey form consists of questions prepared by the researcher to evaluate the sociodemographic characteristics and traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practices using the status of the participants. Results: 53 of 54 patients who filled out the questionnaire applied the traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practice method. While 24 patients applied to traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practice method due to pain, the environment was largely surroundings effects in the decision to apply. Approximately half of the patients had used traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practice methods before their diagnosis, and the rate of traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practice use in patients applying to the rheumatology outpatient clinic was quite high. Herbal methods and cupping were determined as the most frequently used traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practice. While more than half of the patients stated that they benefited from the method they used, the proportion of participants who reported that they were harmed was less than half of the patients. Conclusion: In this study, we evaluated the traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practices using the status of patients who consulted a doctor with complaints about rheumatic diseases. Considering that patients may have applied to traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practices applications before consulting a doctor, doctors need to be knowledgeable about traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practices related issues such as traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practices methods and side effects of traditional, alternative, and complementary medicine practices methods to provide accurate information to patients and manage the disease's treatment process.

Özet

Amaç Bu çalışmanın amacı, bir üniversite hastanesi romatoloji polikliniğine başvuran kişilerin geleneksel, tamamlayıcı ve alternatif tıp uygulamalarına yönelik tutum ve davranışlarını belirlemektir. Romatizmal hastalıklarla ilgili şikayetleri nedeni ile geleneksel ve tamamlayıcı tıp (GETAT) uygulamaları kullananların özellikleri, hangi nedenlerle bu uygulamalara yöneldikleri, hangi GETAT uygulama yöntemine başvurdukları; hasta memnuniyeti, tedavi etkinliği ve hizmeti sunanlar açısından önemlini ortaya koymayı amaçladık. Gereç ve Yöntem Tanımlayıcı tipteki bu araştırma üniverte hastanesine romatoloji polikliniğe başvuran 54 kişiyle yüz yüze görüşme yöntemi ile anket uygulanarak gerçekleştirildi. Anket formu katılımcıların sosyodemografik özellikleri ve GETAT kullanım durumlarını değerlendiren, araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanmış sorulardan oluşmaktadır. Bulgular: Anketi dolduran 54 hastadan 53’ ü GETAT yöntemine başvurmuştu. 24 hasta ağrı nedeni ile GETAT’a başvururken, başvurma kararında büyük oranda çevre etkiliydi.
