Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of smartphone addiction on the fifth finger of the dominant hand in young adults aged 18–25 years. Materials and Methods: A total of 87 individuals aged 18–25 were included in the study. The fifth finger abduction angle wass measured using a manual goniometer on the participants’ dominant and non-dominant hands. Results: The mean age of the participating students was (20.02±1.77) years, the mean duration of phone use was (6.27±2.42) years, and the mean daily smartphone use was calculated as (3.45±0.94) hours. There was a statistically significant difference between the mean measurement values of the right and left 5th finger abduction (p<0.05). The mean measurement value of the right hand 5th finger abduction was 31.046±3.14, while the mean measurements of the left hand 5th finger abduction were calculated as 28.14±3.25. Conclusions: We can say that the right hand 5th finger abduction measurement of students who use smartphones is higher than the left hand 5th finger abduction measurement value.
