Abstract

Tuberculous tenosynovitis is an uncommon cause of median nerve compression usually reported in immunocompromised patients. In this report we describe a 13-year-old patient diagnosed with tuberculous tenosynovitis as carpal tunnel syndrome with no history of immunodeficiency. The clinical features consisted of gradually swelling, mild pain and thenar atrophy of right hand. The diagnosis was made after synovectomy. A surgical resection to cold abscess was carried out, and the histopathological examination showed granulomatous lesion. The patient was cured completely by the antituberculous therapy following surgery. Although it is very rare, tuberculosis should be considered in patients presenting the findings of carpal tunnel syndrome.
