Abstract
This study aims to examine the occupational health and safety of agricultural sector workers in Boğazlıyan district of Yozgat province. The study material consists of survey data collected from 105 farmers registered in the farmer registration system and engaged in agricultural activities in the district. The majority of participants are in the 41-50 age group, married, and have been working in the agricultural sector for many years. This situation reveals that agricultural production is predominantly based on family labor, traditional, and experience-based. The fact that the majority of education levels are secondary education and that agricultural production is the participants' primary source of livelihood can be considered as factors limiting the widespread adoption of innovative and systematic occupational health and safety practices in the sector. When examining the level of knowledge on occupational health and safety (OHS), although a significant portion of the participants stated that they knew the concept of OHS and the relevant legislation, it was observed that this knowledge was largely acquired through mass media and was not supported by formal training. When attitudes towards OHS were evaluated, it was determined that the participants perceived occupational safety as a high priority and expressed positive opinions regarding the usefulness of personal protective equipment. The fact that a significant number of participants had experienced at least one occupational accident and suffered widespread musculoskeletal disorders while working in the agricultural sector indicates that the agricultural sector carries a high risk not only in terms of sudden accidents but also in terms of long-term health problems. In conclusion, this study reveals that a certain level of awareness regarding occupational safety and health (OSH) exists in the agricultural sector in Boğazlıyan district of Yozgat province; however, this awareness is not sufficiently supported by training and the effective use of preventive measures. These findings suggest the need to expand OSH training and increase the applicability of preventive measures in the agricultural sector.
