Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the effects of traditional children's games on the creativity and social status of preschool children. The study group consists of 35 children attending the nursery classes of a primary school affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in the city center of Sinop. A Personal Information Form, the Hybrid Creativity Test, and the Choice-Based Sociometry Technique were used as data collection tools. The traditional children's games program lasted for eight weeks. The program included 24 applications, consisting of an introductory activity and 23 traditional children's games. According to the findings, a statistically significant difference was determined between the post-test scores of the children in the experimental and control groups in verbal creativity and general creativity, in favor of the experimental group. It is observed that there is no significant difference between the two groups in the figural creativity sub-dimension. A statistically significant difference was found between the Social Preference and Social Impact post-test scores of the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group. It can be stated that the traditional children's games program has a positive effect on children's creativity and social status.
