Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between spinal pain and axial rotation, trunk imbalance and physical activity level in young adults using simple examination methods. Material and Methods: Pamukkale Faculty of Medicine students were invited to study. The content of the work was eplained, the trial was realized with those who accepted. Demographic data were recorded in this cross-sectional study. Pain was evaluated according to the Nordic questionnaire, the level of physical activity was determined with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, coronal balance was evaluated by plumb, and axialrotation was determined by scoliometer. Participants were divided into two groups, those with pain and those with no pain. Results: 62 men and 89 women participated in the study. Mean trunk coronal imbalance was 0.29±1.59 cm, mean T7 axial rotation was 0.19±1.81 degrees, mean L3 axial rotation was 1.9±1.76 degrees, mean physical activity levels were 2582.11±2314.80. There was no difference between the painful and non-painful participants in terms of age, gender and physical activity level. There was no correlation between pain with degree of axial rotation, trunk imbalance and physical activity level. There was a negative correlation between body mass index and L3 axial rotation, and there was a positive correlation between trunk coronal imbalance and T7 axial rotation. Conclusion: According to the results of our study; axial pain is not associated with axial rotation grade, trunk imbalance, and physical activity level in young adults. The trunk imbalance was associated with the T7 rotation grade and the axialrotation was associated with the body mass index.
