Abstract

Endocarditis is a rare but fatal complication of brucellosis. We report a 75 year old male with mitral valve endocarditis due to Brucella melitensis who was completely cured with medical treatment alone. Our case and the literature demonstrate that, in selected patients, antibiotic treatment may be a valid alternative to surgery.

Özet

Endokardit brusellozun nadir ancak mortalitesi yüksek bir komplikasyonudur. Bu yazıda 75 yaşında, sadece medikal tedavi ile düzelen, Brucella melitensis’e bağlı bir protez aort kapak endokarditi olgusu sunulmuştur. Olgumuz ve bu konudaki literatür taraması, seçilmiş olgularda antibiyotik tedavisinin cerrahi tedaviye bir alternatif olabileceğini göstermiştir.
