The lines, couplets and stanzas of thousands of poems scanned from books and magazines with chronogram examined in all their details. Thus, the keys of the chronogram was taken by the researcher. This comprehensive study was first prepared as a thesis, and later published under the name “Chronogram in Turkish Literature" and presented to readers. Divan edebiyatının pek işlenmemiş konularından biri, tarih düşürme konusudur. Yazma eserler, taş baskı divanlar, matbu dergiler, tarihi yapılar, mezar taşları vb. yerlerde tarih düşürme sanatının icra edildiği beyitler ve kıtalar görülür. Tarih düşürülen şiirlerde bu sanat bazen kendini hissettirmez, ancak bilenlerin dikkati sayesinde ortaya çıkar. İçinde tarih düşürme sanatı olan divanlardan ve dergilerden taranan binlerce şiirin mısraları, beyitleri ve kıtaları bütün teferruatıyla incelenmiş, tarih düşürmenin şifreleri araştırmacı tarafından çıkarılmıştır. Geniş hacimli bu çalışma önce tez olarak hazırlanmış, daha sonra Türk Edebiyatında Tarih Düşürme ismiyle basılmış ve okurlara sunulmuştur. Makalemizde ise alanında en geniş hacimli kaynak olarak kabul edilebilecek bu kitap, ana hatlarıyla ele alınmış, şiire ve tarih düşürme sanatına merakı olanlar için özet olarak hazırlanmıştır.
