Abstract

Objective: The Scale of Adolescence Separation-Individuation is a scale developed by Levine et al. which evaluates the separation-individuation in late adolescence (Ages 18-22). The aim of this study was to determine the validity and reliability of the late adolescence forms of separation anxiety, engulfment anxiety and rejection expectancy subscales of The Scale Adolescent Separation-Individuation in Turkish population. Method: The study was conducted by 225 university students. 123 female and 102 male students participated into the study. Exploratory factor analysis was carried out in order to test the con- struct validity of the scale. Results: Test retest reliability coefficient of the subscale was found .85 for Rejection Expectancy, .86 for Separation Anxiety, .85 for Engulfment Anxiety. Also, Cronbach’s alfa reliability coefficients were .82 for Rejection Expectancy, .75 for Separation Anxiety, and .79 for Engulfment Anxiety. Test-retest and internal consistency showed that reliability of the scale was acceptable. Discussion: The data gathered during the adaptation study showed that the scale can be used as a valid and reliable tool for Turkish university students.
