Abstract

This study aims to determine the metaphorical perceptions physical education teachers have about teaching methods. Due to its aspect of revealing perceptions about teaching methods, we carried out this study within the scope of phenomenology, which is one of the qualitative research patterns. We developed open ended questions and a personal information form to collect data in accordance with the goal of the study and evaluated the obtained data using content analysis method. A total of 116 (26,6% women and 73,4% men) physical education teachers participated in the study with the average age of x̄ 38,55. The average tenure of the participants is x̄ 13,6, in addition to this 15,5% of the participants do not hold a bachelor’s degree on physical education teaching. The findings of the study demonstrate 64 different metaphor images for teaching methods produced by teachers. These metaphors fall under 6 conceptual categories and when evaluated in terms of frequency; key, guide, game and compass images are the most common concepts of choice.
