Millî Mücadeleyi konu alan romanların çoğunda Mustafa Kemal Paşa vardır. Kemal Tahir Yorgun Savaşçı’da benzer romanlarda görmediğimiz bir Mustafa Kemal çıkarır karşımıza. Önce biz Mustafa Kemal’i anlaşamadığı, uygulamalarına karşı olduğu Enver Paşa’nın dayısı Halil Paşa’nın ve onun yanında bulunan Cemil’in gözünden tanırız. Sonra romanın ikinci ve üçüncü bölümlerinde Bursa çevresindeki hareketi telgrafla yönlendiren bir Mustafa Kemal vardır. Bununla beraber yazarın Yüzbaşı Selahattin’e söylettiği “Temsil Heyeti demek Mustafa Kemal demektir.” anlayışının örneklerini romanda göremeyiz
