Abstract

Vocabulary is a complex and multifaceted concept that plays important roles in language learning and the development of language skills, encompassing not only vocabulary but also form, meaning, and usage. It is a crucial area of language teaching. This concept is the foundation of language learning, comprising listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. In this context, this study aimed to develop a measurement tool to determine students' self-efficacy perceptions regarding receptive vocabulary within the framework of their affective competence. The research was designed in accordance with the survey model within the framework of quantitative research models. Among the foreign students learning Turkish, the study included students who could use Turkish at the lowest level (B1) and the highest level (C1). As a result of these validity, reliability, and verification processes, a single-dimensional, validated measurement tool consisting of 17 items was obtained. This measurement tool can be used to determine the degree to which students learning Turkish as a foreign language perceive themselves as competent in receptive vocabulary, and based on the results, the necessary instructional strategies and practices can be implemented.
