Abstract

The preservation and sustainability of historical artifacts is critical for the transfer of cultural heritage to future generations. In this study, a historical column was modelled by using terrestrial photogrammetry method and the 3D model was visualised on a web-based platform. A high-precision 3D model was produced from the images taken with the terrestrial photogrammetry technique and this model was uploaded to the Sketchfab platform and made available to users. In the study, photographs of the column were taken from different angles, a high overlap ratio was achieved between the photographs and a model consisting of approximately 1.9 million surfaces was created using 38 photographs. The modelling process was carried out using Agisoft Photoscan software and Structure from Motion (SfM) technique, and height analysis was performed on the model. In addition to contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage, the digitisation process allows the artifact to be examined online. This method allows effective results to be obtained even with simple equipment. The study provides an important contribution in terms of preserving historical artifacts in digital environment and introducing them to a wider audience. While the 3D models obtained constitute a valuable resource that can be used for both conservation and educational purposes, it also enables innovative applications such as virtual museums.
