Abstract

The scientific evaluation of historical data is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness and reliability of decision-making processes prior to the occurrence of disasters. This study comprehensively examines disaster statistics and detailed assessments in Türkiye between 2020 and 2024, including frequency analyses of various disaster types, spatial distribution analyses according to settlement areas, and an in-depth evaluation of disaster management and response processes. Within the scope of this study, the types and frequencies of natural and human-induced disasters that occurred in 2020 were analyzed. Additionally, the statistics of similar disasters from 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 were examined using data from the Disaster Management and Decision Support System (AYDES) of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), allowing for comparative analyses. Furthermore, integrated disaster management processes were addressed, and insights into disaster management practices in Türkiye were provided. The significance of preparedness activities prior to disasters, effective intervention processes during disasters, and post-disaster recovery processes were thoroughly analyzed and evaluated. Based on the findings, various recommendations and strategic suggestions were proposed regarding disaster risk management and strategic approaches. These recommendations aim to reduce the impacts of potential future disasters and enhance societal resilience.
