Abstract
Climate change seriously affects food security. With the increasing interest in the environment and food security, the importance of promising plants that can adapt to extreme environmental and climatic conditions is increasing more than ever. These pasture legumes, about which there is no major local publication based on research in our country, are fully compatible with the Mediterranean climate zone in terms of their botanical and agricultural characteristics as well as their ecological requirements. Serradella and biserrula, which are promising legumes, are tolerant to extreme environmental conditions such as drought, salinity and flooding. Serradella is a plant similar to the neglected small semi-climbing vetch of arid areas and can produce good yields under the influence of abiotic stress factors. With its short, bushy and bush-type growth characteristics, biserrula, which is evaluated as a forage crop in the Mediterranean climate zone, is a serradella-type legume species. It has vetch-like leaflets, is flat, upright and has a spreading growth form. Biserrula is a promising plant for deep, well-drained, light-textured soils. It has very hard seeds. Biserrula is different from serradella, it tolerates a pH between 5.2 and 8.0 and grows faster than serradella. The aim of the study is to provide information about serradella and biserrula, which are promising alternative forage crops in terms of food security under the threat of global climate change and drought.
