Abstract

Liver disorders, which are typically caused by inflammation, oxidative stress and metabolic problems, are becoming a major health problem that is affecting the world at large. Ecbolium viride, a plant that is commonly utilized in traditional medicine has potential as a natural source of compounds that can assist in defending the liver. This study aims to perform a computational analysis of the potential biological activity of these compounds regarding their role in liver health. We centered our study on two crucial enzymes in the body: PPAR which regulates both hepatic fat metabolism and inflammation and AMPK which is a major lipotropic energy sensor. Utilizing molecular docking via AutoDock Vina, we discovered that some of the compounds found in Ecbolium viride strongly bind both PPAR and AMPK, indicating that they can synergistically protect the liver. This study goes further by showing these compounds may serve as candidates for further drug development and elucidates their molecular mode of action towards improving liver health.
