Abstract
Fenerköy, located in Silivri, Istanbul, known as "Selymbria / Selybria" in ancient times, is a Greek village with a rich historical past and tangible and intangible cultural heritage values, established within the Anastasios city walls. Its social structure has changed due to population exchanges and migrations throughout history. It takes its name from a lighthouse tower built during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. Containing significant historical traces from the Ottoman period, Fenerköy is one of the rare villages that has survived to the present day with its original settlement pattern. Silivri, where the settlement is located, is one of the peripheral districts of Istanbul, strategically situated on the transportation axis extending from Anatolia to Europe, and possesses fertile agricultural lands. Due to these characteristics, the settlement has maintained its importance throughout history. Today, however, it faces the risk of damage to its original historical fabric due to rapid physical change, pressure from construction, and uncontrolled growth processes. This research was conducted to document the original architectural fabric of the settlement that needs to be preserved and to develop an appropriate conservation approach. In this context, (60) residential structures were evaluated. The buildings exhibit local architectural elements and materials, utilize traditional construction techniques, and harmonize with the original settlement fabric. The presence of examples that provide information about Ottoman-era Turkish architecture, as well as the survival of Late Roman-Early Byzantine building remains in the settlement, makes the preservation of the settlement important.
