Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the disaster response self-efficacy levels of nursing students and identify the factors associated with their self-efficacy. Method: This descriptive-cross-sectional study was completed with 200 nursing students studying in the Nursing Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences at a state university during the fall semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. Data were collected using a Descriptive Information Form and the Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale. Descriptive statistics (number, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) were calculated, and group comparisons were performed using the independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance. Statistical significance was accepted at p<0.05. Results: It was determined that 67.0% of the participants were female, and 52.0% had received disaster training. The vast majority of students had disaster experience (97.0%), had participated in drills (85.5%), and were willing to volunteer (83.5%). The mean total score on the self-efficacy scale was 60.62±11.33 (medium level). While significant differences were observed according to gender, class level, disaster training, drill participation, and willingness to volunteer (p<0.05), disaster experience did not have a significant effect on self-efficacy (p>0.05). Conclusions: Nursing students demonstrated moderate levels of disaster response self-efficacy. Disaster education, drill participation, and willingness to volunteer were associated with higher self-efficacy, highlighting the importance of strengthening practice-based disaster education in nursing curricula.
