Abstract

The remote work model, which became widespread with the Covid-19 pandemic, has brought along many topics of interest, particularly regarding work-life balance. Within this framework, the present study aims to examine the work-life balance of employees who are engaged in remote work. In line with the study's objective, participants from various sectors who are engaged in remote work and had maintained this work arrangement for at least six months were selected using purposive sampling, considering variables such as gender, age, marital status, and geographical location. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a total of 21 participants. The data obtained from the interviews were coded and categorized using the MAXQDA qualitative data analysis software. Frequency analysis, code maps, and density charts were utilized to visualize the codes and categories. The analysis findings reveal that work-life balance among remote employees has different outcomes within environmental, individual, and organizational contexts. Participants reported positive aspects such as work-life integration, time savings, participation in family/social life, employee autonomy, and location flexibility, as well as negative experiences including blurred work-life boundaries, social isolation, inability to detach from work, and flexible working hours. Furthermore, the study identified that the primary factors shaping work-life balance are organizational culture and managerial approach, as well as the level of team communication and social interaction.
