Abstract

Unlike other book arts, the history of Ottoman ebru (marbling) could not be enlightened due to insufficient academic research in the field. The uncertainty resulting from the non-existence of date and name of the artists on the artworks has no doubt contributed to restricted research. The aim of this study is to gather information on the ebru techniques and ebru artists of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. For this end, research has been carried out at the Republic of Türkiye Directorate of State Archives Ottoman Archives Topkapı Palace Museum Archive, where dated ebru manuscripts are kept and though limited, information on ebru techniques, ebru artists and master and apprentice relationship between them during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries has been gathered.

Özet

Diğer kitap sanatlarının aksine Osmanlı ebrû tarihi, bu konuda bugüne kadar yapılmış akademik çalışmaların azlığı nedeniyle yeterince aydınlatılamamıştır. Şüphesiz yapılan ebrûların üzerinde tarih ve imza bulunmamasının taşıdığı belirsizliklerin bunda payı bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmayla 16, 17 ve 18. yüzyılların her biri için kullanılan ebrû teknikleri ve ebrûları yapan ebrûcular hakkında bilgi edinilmesi amaçlanmış, bunun için Devlet Arşivleri Başkanlığı Osmanlı Arşivi Topkapı Sarayı Müzesi Arşivi tasnifinde bulunan defterlerin kaplarındaki tarihlenmiş ebrûlar kullanılarak 16, 17 ve 18. yüzyıllara ait ebrû teknikleri, bunları yapan ebrûcular ve ebrûcular arasındaki usta çırak ilişkileri konusunda kısıtlı da olsa bilgi edinmek mümkün olmuştur.
