Abstract
The geography-centered reading method, which is based on interdisciplinary interaction, focuses on the determination and function of the geographical elements in the literary work. Re-describes the physical and human elements of a city or region in a fictional text. Rifat Ilgaz’s novel Yıldız Karayel, published in 1981, is a suitable text for geography-centered reading based on Cide and its surroundings of the Western Black Sea Region where the author lives and knows and aims to draw a panorama of its climate, landforms, vegetation, population structure, interpersonal relations, economic situation, abstract and concrete cultural elements, and political developments. There are many elements of geography in the novel, in which the change and transformation of the region and the people of the region are fictionalized. The aim of this article is to determine the geographical elements and evaluate their functions in Rıfat Ilgaz’s novel Yıldız Karayel. Our study consists of introduction, review and conclusion parts. In the introduction, information about the geography-centered reading method is given in general terms. In the analysis part, based on the data in the novel, determinations and analyzes were made about the subjects that fall into the field of physical and humanistic geography. In the conclusion part, evaluations about the text are included.

Bir şehrin, bir yörenin fiziki ve beşerî unsurlarını kurmaca metinde yeniden betimler. Rıfat Ilgaz’ın 1981 yılında yayımlanan Yıldız Karayel romanı da yazarın yaşadığı, bildiği ve panoramasını çizmeyi amaçladığı bir coğrafya olan Batı Karadeniz’in Cide ve çevresini ortaya koyar. Bu ise romanı; iklimi, yer şekilleri, bitki örtüsü nüfus yapısı, insanlar arasındaki ilişkileri, ekonomik durumu, soyut - somut kültürel ögeleri ve siyasal gelişmeleriyle coğrafya merkezli okuma için elverişli bir roman olmasını sağlar. Ele aldığı bölgenin ve bölge insanının değişiminin, dönüşümünün kurgulandığı romanda coğrafya biliminin birçok unsuru yer almaktadır. Bu yazının amacı Rıfat Ilgaz’ın Yıldız Karayel adlı romanındaki coğrafi unsurların tespiti ve işlevlerinin değerlendirilmesidir. Çalışmamız giriş, inceleme ve sonuç bölümlerinden oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde genel hatlarıyla coğrafya merkezli okuma yöntemiyle ilgili bilgiler verilmiştir. İnceleme bölümünde ise romandaki verilerden hareketle fiziki ve beşeri coğrafyanın alanına giren konularla ilgili tespit ve analizler yapılmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde de metne dair değerlendirmelere yer verilmiştir.
