Abstract

In this study, germination rates of Origanum onites L, native to Greece, Italy (Sicilia) and Turkey, and Origanum saccatum Davis, endemic for Mediterranean region in Turkey, under in vitro and in vivo conditions were investigated. Different concentrations of GA3 treated seeds were kept in fog house, germination chamber and in vitro growth chamber in order to investigate germination rates. Experimental results revealed that, effects of GA3 concentrations on seed germination varied according to dosage of GA3 application and species. Results also revealed that there is no need to apply GA3 to O. onites seeds but it is necessary for O. saccatums seeds with 10 ppm GA3.
