Abstract

Aim:The aim of this study is to evaluate the frequency and clinic charecteristics of patients with supernumerary teeth by examining each patient’s panoramic radiography. Materials and Methods:A total of 30066 panoramic radiographies of the University Dental Hospital patients were included in the study. Each patient was classified according to the quantities, dentition characteristics, locations, and morphologies for their supernumerary teeth. Demographic data of the patients were also recorded. Results:Of the patients participated in the study, 45% were male and 54% were female, with the mean age of 39.32±18.71. There were 163 patients with supernumerary teeth (0.056%). Male/female ratio for supernumere teeth was 1.33:1. Males were significantly more than in females (p<0.05). Maxilla was more frequently affected than mandibula by 59%. Of the 163 supernumarary teeth, supplemental morphology was the most frequent by 39.5%. There were significantly more supernumerary teeth observed under the age of 30 years than other age groups (p<0.05). Conclusion:The majority of supernumerary teeth in this study were present in males under the age of 30 years, had supplemental morphology, and were located in the maxilla.
