Abstract

The effect of different zinc (Zn) application doses (0 and 5 mg Zn/kg soil) on development of root and shoot of five registered triticale cultivars (Tatlıcak 97, Karma 2000, Presto 2000, Melez 2001 and MİKHAM 2002) grown on a calcareous (Zn) deficient soil (Eskişehir-Sultanönü) for the 21 days was investigated under greenhouse conditions. Zinc application at the rate of 5 mg kg-1 soil had a positive effect on above ground parts (plant height on 14th and 21th days, shoot dry matter yield) and under ground parts (root number, root length, root dry weight and root dry weight/shoot dry weight) of triticale cultivars used in the experiment. While Tatlıcak 97 and Melez 2001 cultivars increased much more their above ground parts by (Zn) application, Presto 2000 and Mikham 2002 responded least to (Zn) application. While the influence of (Zn) application on the root development of Tatlıcak 97 and Presto 2000 cultivars was least among cultivars, Melez 2000 and Karma 2000 were the most affected cultivars by (Zn) application with respect to root development. In conclusion, Presto 2000 was the cultivar which responded the least to (Zn) application at the end of the 21 days of period.
