Abstract

Anemia in ulcerative colitis is most frequently caused by iron deficien- cy. Vitamin deficiencies and immunosuppressive therapy may also play a role in the etiology of anemia. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia is a rare disorder that develops in response to autoantibodies against eryth- rocytes. It can be either idiopathic or secondary (lymphoproliferative disorders, systemic lupus erythematosus, ulcerative colitis, infections, tumors). Autoimmune hemolytic anemia treatment in patients with in- flammatory bowel disease usually presents a challenge.
