Abstract

Primary tumors of the chest wall, including bone andsoft tissue tumor, account for approximately 2% of allprimary tumors found in the body. The reportedincidence of malignancy in these tumors varies fromapproximately 50 to 80%. Costal osteochondroma isthe most common benign bone neoplasm, constitutingnearly 50% of all benign rib tumors. It should beresected because of the risk of malignancy andintrathoracic complications. The patient that had chestpain and swelling anterior chest wall was 14 years old.The mass on the 2-3 and 4 th rib-cartilage zone of theleft hemithorax was stated by chest graphy. He wasoperated on lower extremity localization of multipleosteochondroma 3 years ago. It was reported as aregular size of 9x6 cm non-invasive on the chestcomputerized tomography. The mass was totallyresected. Osteochondroma was reported by thepathologist. The patient was observed for one yearafter surgery with a favorable outcome. This reportpresents a rare localization of an osteochondromaoriginating from a rib in light of the related literature
