Abstract

Aesthetics, the philosophy of the concept of beauty, also examines the comic as an aesthetic value. Aesthetics examines the comic from a philosophical perspective. A philosophical perspective examines its subject or object rationally, objectively, and critically, and offers consistent and comprehensive insights into its object. This article attempts to determine the nature of humor, also explores its function and effects. Comics are simply those that have the effect of provoking laughter. These are further divided into two categories: natural and constructed. Human-created comics correspond to humor. Humorous comics can be defined as those created with comic elements, the purpose of which is to provoke laughter. Comic elements are elements such as exaggeration, absurdity, and inconsistency that elicit laughter. Comics can be produced with just one of these elements, or with multiple elements. If produced with a single element, it is called simple comics; if produced with multiple elements, it is called complex comics. Throughout the history of philosophy, there are philosophers who view humor positively, as well as those who view it negatively. Plato is an example of those who view humor negatively, and John Dewey a positive one. In Aristotle, there are both these views on humor.
