Abstract
This study analyzes the zoology of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Zoo, one of the 11 zoos and aquariums in Türkiye with a Group A licence in 2021. The recorded data is based on interviews with zoo staff and visitors, observations, photographs, and written records kept between 2019 and 2021. It was determined that the zoo houses a total of 115 species, excluding subspecies and varieties: 8 from Reptilia (reptiles), 65 from Aves (birds), and 42 from Mammalia (mammals). It was found that 1 reptile species, 29 birds, and 10 mammals are part of Türkiye’s zoological diversity. The number of species was determined and recorded according to their conservation categories in the IUCN Red List. Additionally, the conservation category could not be determined for 4 species. Geronticus eremita (Ibis), Equus africanus (African donkey), and Verecia rubra (Red-collared lemur) have been identified as critically endangered (CR) species. It has been noted that this organisation is a member of European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) ve International Species Information System (ISIS) and engaged in education and training activities equivalent to World standards in terms of its vision and mission. Furthermore, it has been determined that the organisation shows utmost care towards animal welfare, animal freedom, and animal rights, and recommendations regarding this matter are presented in this study.

Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’de sayıları 2021 yılında 11 olan A grubu ruhsata sahip, hayvanat bahçesi ve akvaryumlardan birisi olan Bursa Büyükşehir Belediyesi Hayvanat Bahçesinin zoolojik analizi yapılmıştır. Kaydedilen bilgiler, 2019 ve 2021 yılları arasında, hayvanat bahçesindeki, görevliler ve ziyaretçilerle yapılan görüşmelere, gözlemlere, çekilen fotoğraflara ve tutulan yazılı kayıtlara dayanmaktadır. Hayvanat bahçesinde, subspecies (alttür) ve varyete (çeşit) hariç, Reptilia (Sürüngenler)’dan 8, Aves (Kuşlar)’den 65 ve Mammalia (Memeliler)’dan 42 olmak üzere toplam 115 türün barındırıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Sürüngenlerden 1, kuşlardan 29 ve memelilerden ise 10 türün Türkiye’nin zoolojik çeşitliliği arasında yer aldığı ortaya çıkarılmıştır. IUCN’nin Kırmızı Listesindeki koruma kategorilerine göre, türlerin sayıları tespit edilerek kaydedilmiştir. Ayrıca 4 türün de koruma kategorisi tespit edilememiştir. Geronticus eremita (Kelaynak kuşu), Equus africanus (Afrika eşeği) ve Varecia rubra ’nın (Kırmızı yakalı lemur) ciddi tehlike altındaki (CR), türlerden olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu kuruluşun, Avrupa Hayvan Bahçeleri ve Akvaryumlar Birliği (EAZA) ve Uluslararası Tür Bilgi Sistemi (ISIS)’e üye olduğu ve vizyon ve misyon bakımından dünya standartlarına eşdeğer eğitim ve öğretim çalışmaları içerisinde bulunduğu kaydedilmiştir. Ayrıca, hayvan gönencine, hayvan özgürlüğüne ve hayvan hukukuna karşı azami özen gösteren bir kuruluş olduğu tespit edilmiş ve konu ile ilgili öneriler bu çalışmada belirtilmiştir.
