Abstract
Doctor-patient communication constitutes an essential foundation for high-quality medical care, as it not only supports the development of individualized treatment strategies and an optimal course of therapy, but also promotes the exchange of information, thereby significantly contributing to patient safety and treatment success. Particularly in the field of professional ‘German as a Foreign Language’ (GFL) education, the investigation of question types in medical dialogues, especially in doctor-patient and doctordoctor conversations, has gained increasing significance. This study analysed anamnesis interviews and dialogues between medical professionals were analyzed as representative medical text types at the CEFR B2–C1 level, using the text-linguistic developed by Weinrich framework. Various question types influence the coherence and cohesion of texts, promoting precise and effective communicative competence as well as text competence. This study aims to analyse the function of question types and interrogative morphemes in medical text genres found in the GFL textbook “Menschen im Beruf – Medizin B2-C1” by Hueber Verlag, with a focus on their text-grammatical characteristics. The study’s findings show that questions in oral interactions between doctors and patients are an essential tool for gathering information, clarifying uncertainties, and ensuring optimal care. In written documents, such as epicrisis or doctor’s letters, direct questions are less common, as the focus is on providing a precise and objective representation of the patient’s medical history. In these contexts, questions are implicitly embedded and contribute to the evaluation and interpretation of the medical situation.
