Abstract

This paper investigates the effects of oil price changes on inflation in Turkey using an Augmented Philips Curve. Many studies in the literature report that oil price passthrough into inflation significantly declined after 1980s. In order to investigate how oil price pass-through has changed over the period 1990-2013, we employ the structural break analysis and time-varying parameter regression models. Our results imply that, in contrast to many empirical studies, oil prices pass-through into inflation has significantly increased over time in Turkey.

Özet

Bu çalışmada, petrol fiyatlarında meydana gelen değişikliklerin Türkiye’de enflasyon üzerindeki etkileri Genişletilmiş Philips Eğrisi Yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Literatürde yer alan birçok çalışma petrol fiyatlarının enflasyona geçişkenliğinin 1980 sonrası dönemde önemli ölçüde azaldığını rapor etmektedir. Petrol fiyatlarının enflasyona geçişkenliğinin 1990-2013 döneminde nasıl değiştiğini tespit edebilmek için yapısal kırılma analizleri ve zamanla değişen parametre regresyon modelleri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, literatürde yer alan birçok çalışmanın aksine, Türkiye’de petrol fiyatı geçişkenliğinin zaman içinde önemli ölçüde arttığını göstermektedir.
