Abstract

Varicoceles, a dilation of veins within the pampiniform plexus, are present in 15% of the general male population. There are various types of surgical options in varicocele treatment including open or microsurgical approaches, laparoscopy, or percutaneous embolization. The ultimate goal of varicocele treatment relies on the occlusion of the dilated veins that drain the testis. This paper reviews indications for varicocelectomy, post-treatment outcomes, and studies that address various techniques for varicocelectomy. The purpose of this review is to describe and compare the success rates of each technique and post-treatment complications.
