Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of sagittal abdominal diameter (SAD) for predicting metabolic syndrome (MetS) in men and to compare SAD with other anthropometric measurements. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 236 male participants. MetS was defined according to NCEP-ATP III criteria. SAD, transverse abdominal diameter (TAD), waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, and body mass index (BMI) were assessed. Diagnostic performance was evaluated using ROC analysis. Associations between SAD and metabolic parameters were examined using Spearman correlation. Logistic regression was performed to assess the independent association between SAD and MetS. Results: MetS was identified in 63 participants (26.7%). SAD demonstrated the highest discriminative ability (AUC=0.721, 95% CI: 0.651–0.792, p<0.001). The optimal SAD cut-off was 25.3 cm (sensitivity 52.4%, specificity 80.3%). DeLong testing showed no statistical superiority of SAD over other anthropometric indices. SAD was positively correlated with HOMA-IR, triglycerides, fasting glucose, and hs-CRP, and negatively correlated with HDL-C (all p<0.01). In logistic regression, SAD remained independently associated with MetS after age adjustment (OR=1.27, 95% CI: 1.14–1.42; p<0.001). Conclusion: SAD showed good discriminative performance for MetS in men and remained independently associated with MetS. SAD may serve as a complementary measure to waist circumference and BMI in the clinical assessment of central adiposity.

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışmada erkek bireylerde sagittal abdominal çapın (SAD) metabolik sendromu (MetS) öngörmedeki tanısal değerini değerlendirmek ve SAD’in diğer antropometrik ölçümlerle karşılaştırmalı performansını incelemek amaçlandı.
