Abstract

The internet has gained an important place in the life of society, and digitalization has contributed to the rapid dissemination of information through new networks. This situation has brought about a break from traditional forms of communication and led to changes in journalism. These developments have led to the emergence of new concepts. One of these concepts is hyperlocal media. With this new kind of journalism, individuals have provided an alternative information flow in local media by transferring the events in their immediate surroundings through social networks. Hyperlocal media, which emerged with digitalization and widespread use of the internet, has recently developed rapidly and has caused changes in the understanding of professional journalism. This study aims to examine the content production and process management style of hypermedia journalism, and to reveal the differences, if any, from professional journalism. For this purpose, representatives of eight hyperlocal news pages on Instagram were interviewed. In the study, where semi-structured interview technique, one of the qualitative research techniques, was used, the data were evaluated with descriptive analysis method. According to the findings, in this new kind of journalism where news flow is provided through social media platforms, it was understood that mostly local events - neighborhoods, streets, etc. - are reported, and the primary news source is citizens. In addition, it was observed that hyperlocal journalism has a different functioning from professional journalism in terms of news values and working system
