Abstract

Objective: In this study, the paper is to investigate the relationship between sleep quality and the quality of work life of intensive care nurses. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 62 nurses working in the cardiovascular surgery and anesthesia intensive care unit of a university hospital. A questionnaire including the Introductory Characteristics Form, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Quality of Nursing Work Life Scale were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the data. Results: The average age of the intensive care nurses included in the study is 29.41±4.22 years (min:24, max:42) and 79.0% of them are women. 64.5% of the intensive care nurses work in the anesthesia intensive care unit. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index mean score of nursing is 5.59±2.62 and Quality of Nursing Work Life Scale mean score is 104.59±13.73. A positive, moderate correlation, statistically significant (r=0.236, p=0.039) relationship has been discovered between the mean scores of the two scales. Conclusion: In this study, the sleep quality of the intensive care nurses has been determined to be poor, and their quality of work life can be defined as moderate. At the same time, it was found that there was a positive relationship between sleep quality and quality of work life.
