Abstract

The study addresses the job shop scheduling problem through an application-oriented perspective and proposes an integrated solution framework that incorporates realistic production constraints by considering sequence-dependent setup times, which are relatively limited in the literature. Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) models reflecting the actual production structure of the factory were developed, and small- and medium-sized test problems were solved using these models. For large-scale instances, a permutation-based Genetic Algorithm (GA) supported by evolutionary search was applied. The primary objective is to minimize order delays caused by setup times arising from machine changeovers. The results indicate that the MILP model provides satisfactory and near-optimal solutions for small and medium-sized problems; however, as the problem size increases, computational time rises significantly and solution efficiency decreases. In contrast, the GA generates feasible and stable solutions for all problem sizes and demonstrates superior performance, particularly in large-scale cases. Future studies may extend the model to a multi-objective structure and enhance the GA through hybridization with other metaheuristic approaches.
