Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the attitudes and awareness of individuals with regular exercise habits toward injury prevention according to their injury history. Methods: A total of 115 participants with regular exercise habits (average age 22.50±3.08 years, 32 women and 83 men), 57 with and 58 without an injury history, were included. Questions related to the exercise habits and injury histories of the participants were carried out using questions frequently included in the literature. The Sports Injury Prevention Awareness Scale was applied to awareness of injuries. The level of compliance with that scale was also asked to assess the attitude towards injury prevention. Results: The socio-demographic data and exercise characteristics of groups, except gender, were similar (p>0.05). When the groups were compared in terms of injury prevention attitude, it was seen that the injury history group had a better injury prevention attitude, and the sub-parameters of the attitude were exercise session (p=0.011), exercise program (p=0.011) and total score (p=0.027) were better. Compared in terms of injury prevention awareness, the attitude and awareness results of both groups were similar except for the exercise program (p>0.05), and the injury prevention awareness of the group without an injury history was statistically significantly higher in terms of the exercise program (p<0.01). Conclusion: When comparing groups according to an injury history, there is no difference in terms of awareness towards injury, but they are different in terms of attitude. Therefore, it is necessary to regulate the attitudes towards injuries in individuals with exercise habits before the injury occurs.
