Abstract

Aim: The research aimed to determine the nurse-nurse collaboration level of nurses working in internal medicine clinics. Material and Methods: This research was conducted in a university hospital located in the Mediterranean region and was descriptive and cross-sectional in design. The study sample consisted of 206 nurses on duty and working in internal medicine clinics between 10.01.2019 and 11.15.2019. Data were collected with the "Introductory Information Form" and the "Nurse-Nurse Collaboration Scale (NNCS)" and were used to evaluate the level of nursing collaboration between nurses. In the study, multivariate regression analysis was conducted to determine the factors affecting the levels of nurse-nurse collaboration. Results: The total mean score of nurses on the NNCS was 78.10±8.18. When the scale sub-dimensions were examined according to the maximum scores that could be obtained, it was determined that the highest (13.15±1.66) mean score was in the conflict management sub-dimension (4 items); the lowest (11.51±1.54) mean score was in the communication sub-dimension (4 items). It was found that there were statistically significant differences between the nurses' age, education status, department they worked in, professional experience period and position they worked in and the scale sub-dimensions and total mean scores (p<0.05). According to the regression analysis results, it was determined that the most important factors that increased the level of nurse-nurse collaboration were being 40 years old and over, having a master's or doctoral degree and being in a charge nurse position (F=6.232, p<0.001, R²=0.093). Conclusion: It was concluded that the level of collaboration among nurses working in internal medicine clinics was high. It is recommended that qualitative research be conducted to enable nurses to express their feelings and thoughts about collaboration.
