Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a scale to determine the factors affecting the brain drain of physicians.. For this purpose, 288 physicians serving in the province of Istanbul were reached. The scale applied to the participants is face-to-face and the convenience sampling method was used when determining the participants. First of all, expert opinion on the 32-question draft scale prepared by the researchers was taken and a pilot study was carried out. After this stage, 3 expressions were excluded from the scope of the study. The scale consisting of the remaining 29 statements was applied to the physicians who accepted the study. First, explanatory factor analysis was applied to the obtained data. As a result of the analysis, 5 factors consisting of 23 expressions were found. These factors were named as “Social status, personal preference, national feeling, seeking abroad and negative thinking”. Confirmatory factor analysis was applied to the statements obtained as a result of the analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the data fit the model perfectly. As a result, it was concluded that the developed scale is a valid and reliable scale that can be used to measure the factors affecting the brain drain of physicians.
